Blossom Princess

The Blossom Princess * Dolly Loli

Inspired by Treebeard in The Lord of the Rings
"...The Entwives gave their thoughts to other things, for the Ents loved the great trees, and the wild woods, and the slopes of the high hills; and they drank of the mountian-streams, and ate only such fruit as the trees let fall in their path; and they learned of the Elves and spoke with the trees. But the Entwives gave their minds to the lesser trees, and to the meads in the sunshine beyond the feet of the forests; and they saw the sloe in the thicket, and the wild apple and the cherry blossoming in spring, and the green herbs in the waterlands in summer, and the seeding grasses in the autumn fields. They did not desire to speak with these things; but they wished them to hear and obey what was said to them. The Entwives ordered them to grow according to their wishes, and bear leaf and fruit to their liking; for the entwives desired order, and plenty, and peace." ~ Treebeard

"In the days of old, there were many beautiful creatures in the world; nature was allowed to thrive without the gear and grind of modern machinery. There were no machines of war, hardly any pollution, and even where fire touched it would not be long before new things would begin to grow. The cycle of nature and beauty continued, smooth and true, bringing brighter and lovelier things.

Long ago, magic was allowed to flourish; nature brought about enchantment and wonder, and mysticism and lore thrived. In the quiet of an ancient lake, a water lily bloomed, and faintly glowed in the evening light. The ents were mystified by this; never had they seen such a lily. It's discovery caused them pause, and for a time, it ceased their wanderings as they tried to decipher what made the lily glow.

For months they debated and researched, gazing on at the lily as it's beauty and power only seemed to grow. It was in the dawn of one fateful morning did the glow become near blinding, magic seeming to explode in every which way. The breeze shook the leaves of the trees around and the water rippled around the lily; once the light dissipated, there emerged a beautiful enchanted child, wide eyed and wondering as the ents gathered around her.

The ents cherished and loved their beloved treasure, protecting and guiding her as if she were one of their own. She was a happy and cheerful young blossom, and as she matured, so did her beauty. Her heart began to long for the companionship of another; the tree ents were good to her, but they did not offer what her heart longed for.

Time went on; for years she longed and searched for this fateful companion, on the anniversary of her birth, it seemed her wish was granted. An elven prince happened upon the festivities, and upon gazing at her, he was instantly enchanted. Braving the rage of the ents, he came forward, and immediately set on a quest to woo her.

The ents cherished their beloved blossom; they did not want her to go, but they could not stop the love that grew between the elf and the maiden. They swore their love to one another in the light of a full moon, and consummated their union in the grass near the lake she was found. They fell asleep cradled in each other's arms.

Yet, when dawn came, she was gone. There was no trace of her; but there, near the water's edge, was another lily beginning on it's first stage of life..."
