For years she could never understand why people ran away from her; perhaps it was the horns and hooves that drove them away. They told her the bright glow in her eyes made her a demon. She was told she should hide herself away; that she was a monster that would scare away children and curse the places she stepped into. She could never understand why they would say such horrible things to her. In her heart, she was just like everyone else, yet even her own family cast her out for her deformities. Who could love a girl with horns on her head and hooves instead of feet? A monster like her could never be pretty.
But in all great people, their strength and beauty lies inside their hearts. It wasn't her fault that she breathed and was birthed into life; it was wrong of them to judge her for the crime of having a different appearance. No matter what they said, she had a right to live and be happy, and beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, not in what rules society places on the world. Tamaya was going to show them that even she could be beautiful and she could be in public.
She spent ages painting her horns into delicate shades of white and purple; she threaded fine silk into string which she could adorn her horns with, and to add a bit of glamour, she attached pink gems to the end of each string. Her hair, once left dirty and matted, she cleaned and took extra care into combing into pigtails. She created fine bows and jewelry, clothing and accessories, and crafted boots which could go over her hooves. She would show the world her own sense of beauty. She was going to shine.
Using herself as her masterpiece, she worked all the clothes onto her body, taking great care into making herself flawless. She painted her lips purple, added a little doodle to her cheeks, and wore a light amount of makeup. Now she was complete.
She took a deep breath as she finally stepped out of her home, and walking among the people, even when they stared she only smiled. Despite their looks, she felt beautiful and proud within herself. She created her own sense of perfection and worth. The world's sense of value meant nothing to her; what mattered was what she felt inside. She wanted things to be beautiful for what they were; not what they should have or could be.
It took time, but slowly the people who once shunned her began to take notice. In time, she was asked to come to parties and to come in public. People wanted to talk to her and be with her; she began to make friends. Yet, even with the company of others, the peace she felt came from within - and they could all see the shine which emanated from inside.
Just like she created her own masterpiece and self image, she began to create her own world, turning her once small and cluttered home into a beautiful cafe. There she shared her hopes and dreams, her passions and joy, and her philosophy on what she called beauty. In time, she worked towards changing societies' view on her, and eventually, the way they viewed others that were once cast out just like her.
Moral: Beauty comes from within your heart. Embrace what makes you different, because that is what makes you beautiful.
