I feel like I haven't blogged in forever. I was sick this week, so this post is a little late. I spent all day working on this lovely picture for you. I found myself a lovely male model for you ladies to drool over, and I also decorated the lightbox into a fantastic little dungeon. I'm going to let your mind wander on where this scene may have led to. Let your fantasy and imagination shine through. 

My friend Rose has come up with this lovely Lolita dress, at my urging no less. I love Zebra print and I love gothic lolita. This dress comes with a lovely slink manicure hud, a color changing hud (dress comes in pink, red, and white versions via hud), and a cute little top hat. For only $325L no less. It's a great deal for what you're getting. 

The necklace is also from Rose's Corner of Venomous Rage Designs. It comes in scripted open collar and non-scripted versions. It's absolutely fantastic. I was so excited for this release, and now it's out for all to see.

I'd also like to point out the throne behind us in the picture. This tasty throne with spilled blood chalice, fully posed throne, and blood filled bowl is free in the next The Sinister Goth Hunt. This is all about the sin Sloth. Delicious, yes? The applications are still open on the website if you'd like to participate. The hunt begins August 1st, so I'd rush on over if you'd like to apply. 

The Harajuku-Lolita's Union is still accepting positions for volunteers. We need event notifiers which tell the group about event openings, freebie notifiers, and we're still taking moderators. In this group everyone is equal and everyone has even room to participate in events, even if they'd like to make their own. The land is fully furnished for use for tea parties, Lolita gatherings, and discussions about Cosplay, Anime, and more. It's free for anyone to use for hanging out. We actually had a gathering for the Smash Brother's Tournament and everything. It was really fun.

Happy 4th of July weekend, everyone. This week has been really busy. Between the start of two events and now with so much going on, I've been really swarmed in Second Life and Real Life, and I am sure you are all too. Even if you aren't in America, there's been a lot of activity all over Second Life holiday and non-holiday related. 

There are a bunch of groups that have discounted or free group joins this week. Baby Monkey has their group free to join right now. It is normally a  $250L join fee. They have men and women's shoes and slink appliers available right now for gifts, and the group gives you access to 50% off new releases, group gifts, and access to all their midnight mania and lucky boards. That is a steal knowing the high quality gifts Baby Monkey gives away to their members. 

Another group that has had their group join fee slashed is Zuri's Jewelry. If you follow my Twitter or Plurk, you may have seen some screenshots of their fantastic and free MM boards and lucky boards. They also have a group that is now only $50L to join for this week only, a normally $199L fee, and you get access to gifts that are normally $300L to buy for non-members. This is a steal and their stuff is very beautiful, high quality mesh.  

The last group I know of with a slashed group join is Rose's Corner of Venomous Rage Designs. She is just one of the many owners of this amazing gothic-punk shop. She makes a lot of gothic lolita and cosplay items. For this weekend only, until Monday, her group is only $35L to join (it is normally $75L to join) and you get a 50% discount on all her older items. They are really high quality, as you can see from the little shoulder pet on my shoulder. This could also really help her store stay open. She is one of many smaller shops struggling day to day to keep open.

You also may have heard that the Hair Fair contest winners were announced. Hair Fair opens next week and all proceeds go to Wigs for Kids. They help children suffering hair loss from chemotherapy and radiation treatments fighting off the horrid disease of cancer. As a pre-celebration to Hair Fair opening, ChiChickie is going a mini hunt in their store in which you find 9 stars which move around the store. It took me about an hour to find all the stars as they scattered about the store. The hunt items include 9 multipack/fatpacks of hair from previous hair fairs. It was really fun to do, and I even spotted FabFree's Love Trill participating.

Harajuku-Lolita's Union has been doing really well. We are now at 176 members, and we have been very active and happy about everything going on here. Last week we had our first meeting, and tomorrow at 6 PM SLT we will be having another one. Members requested that we would have streamed music during meetings and occasional events, so I will be DJing some K-Pop, J-Pop, Anime, and Happy Hardcore tunes for everyone to enjoy. Lucy, my partner and owner of the group, is going to be playing games and handling the meeting discussions. She also is really excited to be giving out gacha prizes, which we're going to go shopping for really soon. Actually, as soon as I am done writing this post. 

Runa (Tsurine Resident) of Panstu Hunter and myself have set up a small blogger box that everyone is allowed to use. This is a public access, free to use blogger and photography box which has pose stands, changing rooms, light boxes, a green screen, and so much more to use. I've packed over 1,000 poses into the pose stands from various events I have participated in over the years, and Runa was kind enough to let us use a lighting system which allows you to cast shadows if you have projectors turned on in your settings. 

Last but not least, The Sinister Goth is now accepting applications for the TSG Sloth Hunt. This hunt is for gothic, punk, and underground creators all over Second Life. The TSG Sloth Hunt is to start August 1st. This group has a following of over 1,500 active members from various fashion and underground clubs in Second Life. You have until the 25th to apply, but the sooner you apply the sooner you will be accepted.

Tomorrow, just a little under twenty minutes from now, two events open I am participating in. The Naughty Nitch Fashion Fair, a monthly event to be hitting Second Life, and the much anticipated Manga Fair. There are so many exclusive items for both I will be featuring, so please keep checking back.

I'd also like to bring attention to something that has been quirking my interests. Many of you know of my participation in the two Second Life subreddits. There is the Second Life Reddit and the SL Reddit. The Second Life Reddit, for the most part, is orientated more towards news and discussions about the virtual realms surrounding Second Life, while the SL Reddit is more orientated towards fashion, blogging, and a variety of other topics. The Second Life Reddit is not moderated, it depends on the upvotes and downvotes of the members to moderate the content, and the SL Reddit is heavily moderated with a rule against downvoting topics that follow the rules. 

What caught my attention on the Second Life Reddit is that nearly every single blog post was downvoted, and noting the massive responses to different discussions in this subculture being actually constructive and logical, it made me want to ask why. So I did. You can see where the discussion lead to at the discussion topic [here]. It received a very positive and insightful feedback, and it actually has given this subreddit some hope that maybe we, the fashion bloggers, would listen and perhaps improve our content to include their interests too. 

Another question I started a discussion on also received a very insightful set of feedback for both of the subreddits. I asked both what kind of content would they be interested in if the fashion bloggers were to improve their content and attempt to include their needs in with the members of this subculture. You can see the responses to both discussions [here] and [here]. 

These two Reddits have done wonders for my blog. Their comments and their feedback are typically rather positive, especially to my guides and tutorials, which they said they would love to see more of. However, a few things were mentioned as polite requests by the people who read the content there, and many of them said they'd stop the downvotes if they saw more of the topics they are looking for. 

The main thing is, they'd love to see less fashion blogs. There are so many people who are in the fashion industry in Second Life that it has flooded both of the Reddits to the extreme. The SL Reddit allows and embraces all bloggers, but the consensus between both Reddits is that they'd both prefer to see less fashion and more genuine news, tutorials, and travel guides. 

Another complaint was the massive self promotion, which, I am guilty of. I have posted every single one of my blog posts there since the beginning, and even though a majority of the people I have spoken to enjoy the topics I cover, they wish I'd do less posting and more participating in their discussions and posting other blogs I read, events I participate in, and actually talk more to them. They feel that Reddit is their platform for discussions about Second Life rather than a massive blog or link feed to side websites about them.  That can be hard because many of the blogs I do follow already post their links there themselves. I had been linking to them in the past but they wanted to take the reigns from me and do it themselves.

Now that we got through the negative, what they don't want to see, I'll start mentioning the things they do want to see. 

One main request was that they'd love to see more news and guides on locations, non-fashion related events, and more about what kind of activities there are to do on Second Life. They want to see what new activities and places they can explore, what groups they could join, and new things they could do to make their Second Lives more enjoyable. I'd also like to see more of this. I try to credit all the locations I visit and take pictures at, though that is not enough to qualify for the above criteria. They actually want guides to various places and what they offer. 

Another request was more educational and, or technical blogs about the inner workings of the Second Life systems of illustrating 3D, art, and creation. Many people, including myself, would love to have blogs posted that aim at teaching people to create on Second Life. Many of the older blender tutorials are old and outdated. Bloggers would get a massive following if they'd feature how to create. 

However, on another note, a lot of them don't hate fashion bloggers. They just wish their content was something discuss-able rather than the old, boring drabble people are used to seeing on so many fashion blogs already. 

I think this is a chance to branch out and try to attract a broader audience than what I have been holding. I don't want to annoy this particular subculture of Second Life. Reddit has been really good to me, in both discussions and making new friends, and I'd like to keep it that way. I hope many of you, my fellow fashion bloggers, will follow the suggestions they are asking for. I think, in the end, it would benefit you to take their suggestions and criticism to heart. Their replies were genuine and constructive, and all in the hopes that we'd stop posting the same things all the time.

I'd like to take this time to say thank you so much to those who participate in these discussions on both Plurk and on the two subreddits. I hope to have more discussions like this in the future, and if I do, I will be sure to write about them here at Dolly Loli.

One of my posts for both the Manga Fair and the Naughty Nitch Fashion Fair opening up July 1st. I'm going to have my hands full keeping up with my post quota. I was really pleased with how this look came out while still being colorful and fun. The location I took it had a beautiful skybox with a very beautiful backdrop in it. Certain parts of the floor glow as you walk across it. It's absolutely a stunning store. They also have a lot of freebies at Pixel Junk Mainstore for the Curious Chinchilla and other furry avatars. 

July 1st has so many events going for it and the SL11B continues until July 5th. I'm pretty sure everyone is really busy at the moment with blog posts, designing, or even just doing the hunts. 

One event I am particularly excited for is one I am running. Today at 6 PM SLT the Harajuku-Lolita's Union will be holding their first meeting. Discussions will range from what we want from the group, the next poll we will vote for, hunts and events we are looking forward to, and so much more. I'd like it if everyone came every Sunday at 6 PM SLT. Please bring your thinking caps. Everything in this group is decided by the players by a vote. We have grown to 166 members, all of which participate and enjoy the shelter for homeless cute boys and girls, the shopping locations, our various hang out areas, the free to use blogger box, and so much more.

Another day, another casualty of the virtual world we call Second Life. Yet we push on, continuing to pursue our dreams in this virtual reality of our own making. Just like in real life, Second Life can be painful; people come in and out of your life for various reasons. The ones who stay and cherish you; value and love them for as long as you can, because within a blink of an eye, the beautiful emotions you once felt for the person behind the pixels can be dashed across the ground and broken forever. 

Second Life is my escape from reality. The day to day struggle of my real life, and I could imagine it is for many of you. An escape; a vacation; an adventure. Whatever it is to you, I can most likely guess it is somehow therapeutic for you in whatever activity you decide to partake in. 

I would like to tell you all about some events that are going to open up on July 1st. I am covering both Manga Fair and the Naughty Nitch Fashion Fair this year. The expectations are high, but I hope I can meet them with vigor and bring to you the amazing news and fashion you crave. There is also the Oh My Gacha opening up on July 1st, which I do not blog for, but some of my sponsors are releasing items for this gacha event.

This is one of the most natural and beautiful exhibits in SL11B. This little parcel features lovely  lily pad ponds, lovely decor, and a little tea house with male and female seating inside. The creators behind it did a wonderful job at making it so beautiful. 

As you can see from these unedited landscape shots, the grounds are spacious and almost like a genuine Geisha House. The Geisha Mothers often prefer closed, walled spaced to keep their girls safe. I once watched a documentary on the dedication and loyalty these women give to the geisha mother. Their payment is in the enjoyment of service, lovely gowns, parties, and their living expenses paid for. They do not profit monetarily in a traditional geisha house. Though ancient tradition once allowed Geisha Mothers to auction off the virginity of geisha who had come of age, this practice is no longer legal and highly frowned upon. They remain celibate throughout their time as a geisha and only service business men and women in the arts of dance, drinking games, and companionship. This is just what little knowledge I know of them from a documentary I once watched on romance and love in different cultures. 

Many geisha, when they get older, do retire and on occasion marry, but the amount of dedication they give to this culture can also go on for life. Many older geisha become Geisha Mothers; they teach young women in the way of the geisha and handle the business side of things behind the scenes. 

My pictures, however, are not an authentic representation of geisha. The dress is actually a Han, and basically Chinese. However, the makeup, gettas, and decor are Japanese. I also took a little bit of my Asian heritage into the pictures I created. My grandmother is Vietnamese, my father is half, and I am a quarter. She has some beautiful portraits on very fine paper in her room. I decided to take this chance to try to recreate the heritage I have grown up with all my life. So this is a combination of many Asian cultures, not just one.

I do hope you continue to enjoy these posts as I cover the SL11B exhibits in my posts. I am very happy to be one of the Press and have been enjoying taking pictures. Even though I have been fighting lag and crowds, I'm still finding very beautiful and peaceful places to take pictures at on these 11 sims. 

I hope to be able to complete the hunt soon -- though I admit I have been swarmed with both Naughty Niche Fair items and Manga Fair items. These two events begin on July 1st and I will be participating in both of them. I'm still not sure how exactly I shall combine naughty and nice together to form looks, but keep an eye out on the blog. My schedule may have me posting every day this week.

June has been really busy, especially with me volunteering to cover the SL11B exhibits for this year's 11th SL birthday. The birthday is officially June 23, 2014, but there shall be two full weeks of all kinds of fun including exhibits, live performances, discussions with designers, and more. This year's 11 sims feature tours via ride-able pods, exhibits created by members of SL, hunts, freebies, and gifts everywhere. Even if you aren't the sociable sort, you can still explore a vast majority of these sims without running into too many people.

I was taken on a tour of the 11 Sims by our amazing guide Saffia Widdershins. She is one of the people guiding and feeding information to members of this year's SL11B Press Group. She did an amazing job showing us around and telling us about the exhibits all over. I really have to thank her for making my first encounter with SL's birthday festivities a pleasant one. I had never been to one of these events. She knew a lot of the history about the birthday and had a warm, bright sense of humor that made the tour the highlight of my day.

I'll have to say, the gifts and items are everywhere. Stores such as Kittycats have specialty free gifts placed everywhere around the 11 sims, and what is even better, you can fully participate in the 11th Birthday -without- spending a dime. Everything in this event is free. Free. Nada. Zilch. You can participate in this event without spending one linden towards anything. This entire 2 weeks of fun is completely free of charge.

There are many, many exhibits on these sims, but my favorite has to be Loki Eliot's Astound Cake Exhibit. I felt like I was in space or even included in a game of space invaders. The sky is 100% animated and can be seen even on low graphics. The lag is reasonably low when it isn't filled with a bunch of people listening to the DJ performances which take place in this part of the exhibit. The amazing thing is that you are encouraged to fly everywhere here and you can jump to the numerous platforms. I'm also going to mention that Loki hinted at hiding a bunch of free gifts in the cake exhibit.

The atmosphere of the exhibit is just extraordinary. It is literally the most beautiful thing I have ever experienced in my two years of playing Second Life. Our tour guide,  Saffia Widdershins, had a very difficult time trying to get everyone out of there to finish the tour. We were all astounded by how amazing and interactive this single exhibit was. I'm going to say I'm probably going to cry when these two weeks are over. I wish Linden Labs would make an exception for this exhibit and leave it up forever.

Gazing up towards the ceiling of the exhibit, I felt like I was gazing at the eye of Glados from Portal, or maybe a sister of hers. This place would be awesome to experiment with science. This exhibit brought so much joy to me. I loved it.
